What is Thornham Magna Parish Meeting?

Thornham Magna and Thornham Parva are small rural villages with a joint population of approximately 300 in the Mid Suffolk District Council area

A Parish Meeting is the lowest form of local democracy in England but uniquely satisfying as all members are able to vote and take a full role in village decisions. The Meeting elects a Chair, Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer annually at one of our three meetings, which all residents are welcome to attend. We take a modest Precept from each household’s Council Tax, the money goes towards village maintenance and development. All members on the Electoral Roll are able to vote for or against new suggestions on the agenda. The Meeting aims to circulate useful information to all and co-ordinates with the District Council about planning and matters concerning the locality. We are currently looking after the village playground, our bookswap, the village footbridges and litter picking. We aim to support each other and our community throughout the year.
